About the South Dakota Woman's Christian Temperance Union
“Sign the abstinence Pledge!” An important part of WCTU’s earliest plan of work was to encourage people to sign the abstinence pledge. Members (who often wore aprons with pockets) carried a notebook and collected signatures of all who promised to abstain from beverage alcohol. Sign-up books were placed in Sunday Schools, churches and temperance meeting rooms. Today signing the pledge is still important to WCTU. See Get involved, Join WCTU
